Patrol Leader

Job Description: The Patrol Leader (PL) is the elected leader of his patrol. He represents his patrol ion the Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC).

Reports to the Senior Patrol Leader (SPL). If you're the patrol leader for an FCE patrol, you'll also work with the Troop Guide who is assigned to your patrol.

Patrol Leader duties:

  • Appoints the Assistant Patrol Leader (APL)
  • Represents the patrol on the PLC 
  • Plans and steers patrol meetings
  • Helps Scouts advance
  • Acts as the chief recruiter of new Scouts
  • Keeps patrol members informed
  • Knows what his patrol members and other leaders can do
  • Sets the example
  • Wears the uniform correctly
  • Lives by the Scout Oath and Law
  • Shows Scout spirit

Assistant Patrol Leader

Job Description: The Assistant Patrol Leader (APL) is appointed by the Patrol Leader (PL) and leads the patrol in his absence.

Reports to the Patrol Leader.

Assistant Patrol Leader duties:

  • Helps the PL plan and steer patrol meetings and activities
  • Helps him keep patrol members informed
  • Helps the PL get ready for all troop activities
  • Represents his patrol at Patrol Leaders' Council (PLC) when the PL cannot attend
  • Lends a hand controlling the patrol and building patrol spirit
  • Sets a good example
  • Wears the uniform correctly
  • Lives by the Scout Oath and Law
  • Shows Scout spirit

Patrol Scribe

Job Description: The Patrol Scribe keeps the patrol records. He records the activities of the patrol and keeps a record of dues, advancement, and Scout attendance at patrol meetings.

Reports to the Patrol Leader (PL).

Patrol Scribe duties:

  • Keep the patrol log for every meeting
  • Keep attendance records
  • Collect patrol dues
  • Can prepare a budget for buying patrol equipment

Patrol Quartermaster

Job Description: The Patrol Quartermaster keeps track of patrol equipment and sees that it is in good working order.

Reports to the Patrol Leader (PL).

Patrol Quartermaster duties

  • Keeps all the patrol gear in order
  • Checks out troop gear for the patrol
  • Checks in troop gear for the patrol

Patrol Grubmaster

Job Description: The Patrol Grubmaster leads his patrol in preparing an outing menu, prepares the shopping list, and purchases the food and needed items.

Reports to the Patrol Leader (PL).

Patrol Grubmaster duties:

  • Prepare an outing menu with patrol members
  • Prepare a shopping list
  • Purchase the food and other needed items
  • Bring the food with you to the outing
